Farmer Motor Group since our inception has been actively involved with community sponsorships. We realise without constantly supporting our community we cannot expect the community to support us.
Farmer Motor Group Limited began life as Bay Nissan in 1991, started by Peter and Dianne Farmer with a staff of just twelve. Peter’s vision was to create a dealership that was unrivalled in customer service and, after just one year in business, Farmer Motor Group was awarded the number one Nissan dealership in the country. Since then, the team has accomplished this feat another eight times as well as many other awards, making it one of the most recognised dealerships in the country!
The company soon grew to take on Audi, Volkswagen and Skoda, which has been branded Bay Prestige. Bay Subaru followed and is now housed on a separate site. The latest brand to join the successful Farmer Motor Group is Bay Chrysler Jeep Dodge.
In 2001 Peter’s son, Michael, joined the Group after 10 years in senior management at a large motor vehicle financier in Auckland. Michael runs the day to day operations as Group Managing Director and holds a significant shareholding in the business. Farmer Motor Group is the Bay of Plenty’s largest car retailer, with an annual turnover of $50 million, 60 employees and sales of approximately 140 new and used cars each month.
Farmer Motor Group has a strong sense of corporate responsibility and is involved in a number of community sponsorships. Sponsorship comes in the form of vehicles and/or funding for organisations as diverse as the Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service, Creative Tauranga, the Garden & Artfest and a number of local bowling clubs. Peter Farmer has also made a valuable contribution to Priority One since its inception in 2001 and has served on the Board and Action Committee since that time.
Farmer Motor Group recently created a ‘mega’ car dealership on Hewletts Road at the BP Truckstop site. Up until now the company’s dealerships have been spread over four sites. The Farmer Autovillage Xtreme site combines the four dealerships into a ‘state of the art’ retail and service centre, including separate showrooms for each franchise, a parts department, a high tech workshop with 25 bays and a central glassed atrium used as a waiting area. Internet, plasma television, hot food and a children’s play area are available for customers while they wait for their vehicles to be serviced. The auto mall concept is not a new one, but will be the first of its kind in New Zealand. It has proven to be very successful in Europe, the United Kingdom and the USA, especially for group dealerships.
The team at Farmer Motor Group warmly welcome all returning Kiwi's and offer unrivaled advice, selection and support when purchasing your next vehicle.
